Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion is

a 1970 Italian satirical crime thriller directed by Elio Petri about a powerful police inspector who murders his mistress and

then manipulates the investigation to see

if his authority places him beyond consequence. The film critiques corruption and abuse of power with dark humour and psychological intensity. It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Grand Prix and FIPRESCI Prize at

the 1970 Cannes Film Festival.
